Dry Skin

Dry skin feels tight, flaky, rough, and itchy because it doesn’t have enough moisture. This happens when the outer layer of the skin loses its natural fats, causing water to evaporate quickly. Common issues include flakiness, uneven texture, fine lines, and wrinkles, which can be worsened by the climate, air travel, seasonal changes, and aging.

The key to treating dry skin is restoring hydration through moisturising and minimising damage through sun exposure, harsh cleansers and allergens. A common cause of Dry Skin is a Compromised Skin Barrier.

We recommend using a gentle, pH-friendly cleanser when cleaning your face, a good moisturiser and a gentle hydrating sunscreen that isn’t too thick.

What makes a good moisturising routine is the inclusion of these 3 types of moisturising agents: Humectants, Emollients, Occlusives. To simplify, Humectants retain moisture, Emollients add oil to smooth the skin and Occlusives create a barrier to lock in the moisture. We have included a list of ingredients within each of these categories below if you would like to build your own routine. The products on this page have been selected because they cover one or more of these categories.

A routine can include a toner, essence, serum, ampoule, moisturiser and oil. If this all seems overwhelming, start with a moisturiser and this will cover most of your skins needs. It is common to find Humectants in serums and essences which is a great way to boost hydration.

Common Humectants: Glycerine, hyaluronic acid, propylene glycol, amino acids, lactic acid and urea.

Common Emollients: Jojoba oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, squalene, dimethicone and ceramide.

Common Occlusives: Shea butter, bee wax, Lanolin, Aquaphor, Tamanu oil, Petroleum jelly or petrolatum.
